Network Issue Update

The JSD network has had significant disruptions caused by broadcast storms, which overwhelm the system when excessive data is sent across the network. This has led to outages, primarily originating from the High School, but also affecting other sites. The issue is tied to network traffic congestion.

We’ve taken extensive measures to address the problem, including working with a contracted team of network engineers monitoring traffic, reviewing logs, making configuration changes, and helping troubleshooting. While we have ruled out external attacks and internet service provider issues, the network engineers have been unable to isolate the exact cause and have escalated the matter within their company for further expertise. Adjustments to firewall filters, network policies, DHCP settings, wireless configurations, network routes, and content filters have all been implemented as part of our efforts.

In the meantime, we have actively communicated with our staff and community to manage the impact. Staff have been informed about network changes, and parents have been advised to contact the district office if they cannot reach a school directly. Parents, please continue to call the Jerome School’s District Office (208)324-2392 if you cannot contact a school building directly. Building administrators have also been kept updated to ensure coordinated responses.

While these outages are inconvenient and affect the ability of staff and students to use online resources effectively, school safety remains paramount.

Our I.T. Department would like to again thank the teachers and staff in the schools for their continued support and effort in teaching during any disruptions. We are committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience and understanding.
