The Jerome School District Board of Trustees approved a resolution to present a two-year Supplemental Levy to taxpayers November 5, 2024. The resolution proposed will extend the current supplemental levy amount of $1,250,000 and ask for an additional amount of $500,000 for a total of $1,750,000 per year for two years.
The existing levy amount will provide $750,000 for a portion of the salaries and benefits for Classified and Extra Curricular staff, $300,000 for a portion of non-reimbursed student and extracurricular transportation, and $200,000 for program and software licenses. The additional amount of $500,000 will provide for the purchase of new and used school buses.
These additional funds will help us undertake busing within the Jerome School District starting next year, moving away from outsourced contracted services. This is obviously a large undertaking but one we are excited about as it will improve our safety, fiscal efficiency, and abilities to provide enhanced transportation. We have heard from you, our stakeholders, that our transportation services need to improve and in consultations from the State of Idaho this is the best way to move forward. It will take a lot of hard work and an initial capital investment but the long term benefits will be felt across our entire community.
The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $66 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, which is an increase of $19 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value over the prior year. This levy amount will be assessed per year, for two years, based on current conditions beginning July 1, 2025.
