Head Lice
Head lice is very common in this area of the state, and in fact, millions of school children around the nation get
head lice every year. The occurrence of head lice is not a sign of unclean or poor health habits. It often exhibits
itself in the classrooms and presents personal trauma to the students and their family when it is diagnosed. In
order to avoid embarrassment to the student and family, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality
of the student.
When head lice or nits are discovered parents will be notified and student may not return to school until they are
nit free. Parents need to follow the directions on the pesticulicide shampoo and also do the appropriate cleaning.
Persons returning to school with nits in the hair will be sent home repeatedly until the nits are gone. Students who
are removed from school must be checked before re-entry to assure that all nits and lice have been removed and
the student has been treated.
