Alternative High School Graduation Requirements
Idaho State Board of Education The Idaho State Board of Education sets standards for Idaho Students graduating from an Idaho public school. A local school district may change graduation requirements as long as the requirements are beyond the state minimum. We are proposing to adjust current Alternative School graduation requirements to meet the needs of our students and our school. Proposed changes will not reduce State minimum requirements but rather reallocate current district required credits (2 Physical Education) to meet the Idaho State Board of Education graduation requirements (0 Physical education Requirements). The two Physical Education requirements will be replaced by two additional elective credits, not exceeding the State Board of Education allotted elective credits (17) and meeting the required 46 minimum graduation credits.
High School Graduation Minimum Requirements This document outlines the minimum graduation requirements as outlined in IDAPA 08.02.03 104, 105, 106. School districts may have additional local requirements that impact student graduation. By the end of the 8th grade, each student shall develop a parent-approved student learning plan for their high school and post-high school options. It must be reviewed annually and may be revised at any time.
State requirements include that all students:
CONTENT AREA | STATE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS |
Core of Instruction | 29 credits |
Electives | 17 credits |
Additional Requirements | See Descriptions |
Total Credits | 46 credit (minimum) |
The rule also requires school districts to offer students at least one advanced opportunity, such as concurrent credit, Advanced Placement, or tech prep courses.
In addition, students may be able to participate in a flexible school schedule or graduate early.
Publication of Graduation Requirements Prior to registering in high school, each student will be provided with a copy of the current graduation requirements. Secondary school staff will share these requirements with all students through means they deem most suitable to their buildings. The student handbook will also contain these guidelines as a minimum effort to convey the requirements to students and their parents or guardians.
